As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The tunnel's official opening ceremony, which is 2.1 kilometers long took place in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the vision to change the concept of transportation throughout Jerusalem," Elkin said. Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel is connected with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike paths. It will also be paved throughout the various neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to increase cycling and encourage green transport in Jerusalem.

In the 90s In the 90s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to transfer the main sewer line of Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel and houses the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.
