The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by all.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company Chairman, as well as hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction due to its rich history. Elkin explained that the modern tourism industry is one of Jerusalem's historic treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is another stage in the growth of Jerusalem as an ideal tourism destination for all kinds of travelers in Israel and all over the world."

Elkin, whose ministry and the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, stated that the Jerusalem Municipality's ministry "invests hundreds to millions of shekels annually to develop all aspects of Jerusalem's tourists and in the development and operation of new attractions, ventures and attractions that connect the glorious history of our eternal city to its future". I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to visit and enjoy the contemporary, well-maintained road which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

"The new tunnel, which will connect to the lengthy Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike paths in the city and those that will be paved throughout the city's neighborhoods to encourage cycling among the city's residents as well as its visitors and promoting the green revolution of transportation in Jerusalem."

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel that includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.
